Just got a screaming deal on this sport coat. It is a "Chester Barrie" sold by Carrol & Co in Beverly Hills. Bought it on Ebay on impulse. What season is this coat? What would go with it?

Brian:

Good-looking coat from a fine maker! Keep your eye peeled for a forensic dissection of a Chester Barrie coat by Jeffery Diduch on his Made By Hand blog, which should be available eventually. You'll learn in detail why Chester Barrie was once held in high esteem. There's more to a well-made garment that you might imagine.

As to what would go with your coat, consider brown-and-tan marl wool twill trousers or dark tan wool gabardine trousers. Add a pair of cap-toe lace-ups in medium brown calf with elegant notching and punching to the cap and the tongue or a pair of dark brown suede slip-ons with raised lakes and tassels.
Finally, be a little adventuresome with your choice of shirt, say, a medium check, and pick an interesting patterned tie that doesn't shout, and add a silk pocket square that complements the ensemble.

Thank you Jordan... That's wonderful advice that I will heed to the best of my meager abilities.
Take Care....

This is an example of Carroll & Co. house style in the use of a printed lining. Typically, the lining would be a paisley.
