More to the point, even non-working buttons are soley decorative and historical and serve no function.I agree that that working buttons serve no function. They are solely decorative and historical. I know many clothing professions who get their clothes for free who forego working buttons.
Functional Sleeve Buttons
Very true, except for the function of keeping some slob from wiping his mouth or nose on his sleeve. And, I'm sure that doesn't apply here.Aristide wrote:More to the point, even non-working buttons are soley decorative and historical and serve no function.I agree that that working buttons serve no function. In terms of man-hours, attaching buttons to a sleeve is a fraction of the cost compared to machine-made working button-holes, which is itself a fraction of the cost of hand-made ones. Personally, considering the price elasticity of demand, (i.e., the most I will pay for a given product which in this case is a suit or jacket) I would rather plow the monetary differences into better fabrics, linings, interfacing, button materials, zippers, etc. (ie., the hidden details) rather than into a stylish relic.
