Hello everyone:

The title speaks for itself. My initial thought was using it for a tuxedo. But now I am considering using it for a suit. What do yall think. I live in Florida, so itd hopefully be able to withstand hot weather.

Warm regards

I haven’t tried this in steamy weather, but I would be disinclined to slot it into that. More of a year round evening thing that could mitigate high temperatures at banquets and opera performances.

Dear jonathans,

I made it up as a tuxedo - it ends up looking more like barathea than I expected, it certainly has some texture to the cloth.

It’s a very stark and formal cloth due to the slight shine from the mohair. I too have considered it as a suit to wear in the evening, I believe it should work well, just not as something to wear during the day.

Tuxedo or a suit for the evening, I believe it works either way!

Best,
A

Okay. So I have a follow up to this. I will do it as a tuxedo (I ended up getting a standeven explorer to fill the role I wanted). Now, the question is, satin or grosgrain facings?

Hi,

So I had the same debate with myself. I bought unreasonably much of this cloth, I think something like 18 m. I first made it up as a dinner suit:

https://www.instagram.com/p/C884yv7NbFU/?img_index=1 (I think Steven says Harrisons and Midnight blue but he made a mistake with another order - this is my black mohair dinner suit, I never made a photo of it when taking delivery and I left it in London.) The photo is dated one day before I took delivery of it.

I think it works really well as a dinner suit. I think it would work really well as a suit made for evenings as well, I have one already, so it was hard for me to justify one more almost exactly the same.

Best,
A

Very nicely made. I don’t care for midnight blue dinner clothes, but this fabric would make an excellent suit for a night out. One length for me only. Now to choose a tailor and DB vs SB…

For what it's worth, Jonathan, I have midnight blue satin facings on my midnight blue LL Mohair dinner jacket. I have grosgrain on my black one, and I wanted a variation.

If you have a spare 2.5-3 meters, I'd be delighted to take it off your hands.

Andy:

I ended up buying a length of standeven explorer midnight for the double breaded navy suit I was thinking about. (Also, it has the benefit of being great for summer, which was what I was going for). I also got a lumbs golden bale London shrunk for the fall / winter version of this. Throw on the London lounge 1kg overcoat & I’ll be all set.

A tuxedo is logical, of course for this fabric. Is there a good place to buy silk facings? I’m thinking satin but get enough for more than 2-3 tuxedos and 2-3 bow ties so that it all matches.

Obviously, for a first tuxedo Single breasted, peak lapels, db waistcoat.

I sourced the midnight navy satin silk for the facings on my midnight blue dinner jacket from a place in London. But I've seen a suitable one recently, in a book of formal facings, oddly enough. I don't have it to hand, but I'll be visiting the tailor's where I saw it next weekend (March 22), so I'll see if I can get a picture of it for you.

Thanks Andy

It’s something that’s been on my mind.

I think a single breasted tuxedo. Then a db shawl. But I will have facings for one more in case I decide something else (maybe I’ll do a sb shawl).

Keep me apprised!
