Maurice Sedwell

This SR tailoring house intrigues me as it gets scant mention, is quite low profile yet has an outsize reputation for quality. Moreover, it appears to be owned and managed by its chief cutter and tailor, Andrew Ramroop, so we have an attractive artisanal arrangement here.

They claim 70-80 hours of hand work on each bespoke suit which is more than I have heard of for a bespoke suit, bespoke being more commonly in the range of 40-50 hour suits.

Does anyone have experience with Maurice Sedwell?

I have visited the shop and spoken with Mr. Ramroop a few times. He is a gentleman and a tailor, to say the least. His house style is clean and structured and a tad flamboyant. The quality of the construction -- especially the handwork -- is easily the finenst on Savile Row, and probably in the West End. Maybe Fallan & Harvey compares, but no one else with a shop and a shingle does.

That's very interesting that you consider Sedwell has the finest handwork on the Row.
I have never been in his store but shall certainly make it a point to do so next time I am in London.
Do you know if he has in-house tailors doing the sewing or does he farm it out?
And Ramroop himself does the material cutting, is that correct?

Alden has been in there more recently than I have, so he may have better information. To the best of my knowledge, Ramroop does all the cutting. He does have tailors who sew in the shop, but I could not say that 100% of the work is done in-house. I don't think one can say that about any firm in Savile Row or the surrounding streets.

When I worked for Maurice Sedwell himself, it really was a so-so Savile Row House. Ramroop has taken the company to a much higher plain by his attention to detail and perfection fueled by his desire to be considered one of the best.
