Level 2:

How about a stylish slim wallet and a matching accompanying (or at least not contrasting) smartphone pouch?

A pouch is basically the style where you take out the phone for use:

As there are nowadays as many sizes as many phones if you don't have a more 'standard' sized phone (think iPhone) you really have a hard time to find a good one for your phone.

And we haven't talked about your smartphone pouch to match your wallet.

I highly recommend Peter Nitz in Switzerland. Just got a blue alligator credit card holder that was exquisite.

Thanks; finally solved. I though; why separate the wallet from the phone pouch? It is much more minimalist if they are one and the same.

Above: Dutch brand Mujjo. I like the style. Good value, too.

Edit: the above is currently only available in smaller, iPhone 5 (and other phones of similar size, as it is not strict) and iPhone 6 (and other phones of similar dimensions) sizes, but not in bigger, 'phablet' or iPhone 6 Plus (and similar) size. Those are the market forces.

Please consider writing to support@mujjo.com that you would like to see it in the bigger 6 Plus/phablet size - but only if you truly support the idea. Me personally thank you for it.

Might be not in beginner's price range. I mean, it must be nice, but the whole style thing is a process. Why spend a fortune in the beginning, if you can simply get bored of expensive items... it is not a good value for you. Then you might as well begin much more budget friendly.

Not to keep harping on about coins, but I'm surprised no one mentioned coin pockets. A bespoke suit inherited from my father has a coin pocket in the waistband near where braces attach and another two have them in the right front pocket. Do Londonloungers not like/commission coin pockets in suits?

I get watch/coin pockets in the waistbands of some trousers. For some reason, when A&S tried to do it, there was sagging and asymmetry galore. They ended up re-thinking the solution by putting the coin pocket in the lining of the waistband, although it's hard to reach behind braces or inside a tightened belt.

I don't put coins there much-- usually it would be a set of keys or maybe a few credit cards if I want to keep the front pockets clear or lower my pickpocketing risk.

I have one of these:

http://shop.beams.co.jp/shop/igbeams/go ... id=3510833

It's not in goat skin, but rather royal purple textured calf, and it holds everything I need - train pass, drivers licence, two credit cards and a few business cards - and nothing I don't.

I'm not sure if they're available outside Japan, alas.

I'm another coin less fan :D I also have stopped using a wallet as it seems to be a collecting ground for all manner of bits and pieces.

Hear, hear.

The thinnest wallet? No wallet at all.

Fold large bills once, slide into inner pocket.
Crumple small bills trice, silde into outer pocket. Always impresses both petty thief and ordinary man alike when you have pockets full of money. Just don't put it all in one pocket.
Leave coins to strangers, servants, or wherever it is convenient to dispose of them as a sign of feigned noblesse oblige.

The Japanese wallets would be yen sized though, even in royal purple.

My first two pairs of trousers from Steed both had a coin pocket behind the waistband, in the manner of A&S that you mention. However, in both cases, a braces button was sewn onto the back of the pocket instead of onto the waistband. This caused (causes) the braces to pull the pocket up and out of the top of the waist of the trousers. For this reason, I have deleted this pocket from my pattern. Besides, I never carry coins.
