The quoted rent makes me depressed, though.

Gaziano & Girling to arrive on Savile Row
The premises at 39 Savile Row where G&G is moving in was occupied by the "upscale" store of chain retailer Ben Sherman. Although everybody would have liked a new tailor shop at that location, I believe this trade off is still good news for the Row. Ben Sherman was only offering their off-the-rack super slim suits in paper thin fabrics .
Although I agree the rent is quite steep, G&G has a solid business and they would only have to monthly forgo the price of 4 pair of their bespoke shoes to pay it up.

I find this to be a bit puzzling. G&G already has shared space at 12 Savile Row which they use to meet customers, and they recently moved their factory to another location in Kettering, so it seems the bulk of the business is staying put in Northamptonshire. Further, their web site doesn't mention the move.
The only explanation I can think of, is that G&G will be adding some full-time salesmen in London, and hopes to increase its RTW and MTO business. Either Tony or Dean would still need to come in for bespoke orders, so I can't believe they would get dedicated space just for their bespoke business. It does make sense though, that they might want to carry some shoes in stock for walk-in customers and free up Tony & Dean from travelling to London to meet with MTO customers. If that's the case, then they certainly would need dedicated space somewhere in the area.

That' s just a corner in the basement. There is not enough room to show the shoe models, e.g. when a fitting at C&M is taking place. G&G want to show their models in a shop where people/customers can look around, just like other Northampton makers do, that is what Thomas Kalflo said.Kayak81 wrote: G&G already has shared space at 12 Savile Row which they use to meet customer
They hired French Thomas Kalflo to the London shop, he used to be patineur at Corthay's. Cannot remember what he said about the bespoke shoes, but the new shop is primarily to have a showroom for their growing market of RTW and MTM shoes.Kayak81 wrote: The only explanation I can think of, is that G&G will be adding some full-time salesmen in London, and hopes to increase its RTW and MTO business.
