I always go for PTU's, as I think they provide more interest. Is there a "correct" depth to them? I get mine at 1 3/4".

I think that the "correct" depth of a turn-up is the one that is in balance with the length of the leg, the width of the trousers bottom and with the general character of the suit.
1 3/4" or 1 7/8" can work well with a generous flannel double breasted suit on a tall person, but for a shorter person or a slimmer poplin single breasted suit, I believe 1 1/2" or 1 5/8" works better.
You can call it nit-picking, but IMHO even one eighth of an inch could make a difference.

Gentlemen
On the lighter & whimsicle side I can't count on the number of times where my cuffs/turnups have caught loose change that has fallen out of my pocket. Will modern wonders never end ?

I totally agree. A bit of healthy nit-picking, as you say,....can save a lot of stitch picking!

It's about proportion. A DB that's cut slightly shorter in length combined with a slimmer leg doesn't need turn up's but a slightly longer coat with a more generous leg would look out of place without them. In my opinion of course!!
