Do any of the LL'ers have any experience with H Lesser Lumbs Golden Bale made in the 80s/90s? I was at my tailor this weekend, and he is doing a sale with "vintage" H Lesser lengths, including some Golden Bale. From what I understand the Golden Bale of the 80/90s is far superior to the Golden Bale of today.

I ended up with going for a Golden Bale in a dark grey glenurquhart check, the weight guessed to be about 11oz by my tailor. Unfortunately only enough for a 2 piece, but I am really looking forward to the first fitting in January.

I can't compare directly, as the one suit I had made from 80s golden bale was accidentally deaccessioned. But it was very, very fine.

One of the owners at Chipp would say it was the kind of cloth that if you were wearing it and committed suicide by jumping off the Empire State Building, the first thing the rescue crew would ask when they arrived at the sidewalk was whether they could scrape your body out to re-use the suit.

I went for the navy blue Lumbs in the same sale - at Graham Browne in the City. When I was there yesterday they did have some nice grey Lumbs still available. There's also some very nice cashmere and tweed jacketings that caught my eye.

If that is Lumbs GB from 80s and 90s you really should snap it up. Take my word.

I would echo Frank's advice. The GB from the past was exceptional cloth. LL members were able to acquire nearly 300m of the old 13-14 and 16 ozs GB from H. Lesser at the time of the Harrison acquisition. If there is any 11 ozs out there, would be a good idea to get some though the heavier weights were the most sought after.

Cheers
