Interesting interview; it's nice to hear from someone whose thoughts on men's style are well thought-out, but at the same time geared more towards practical than aesthetic (ideological?) priorities. (E.g., preferring rubber-soled shoes.) It gives a different perspective from what we tend to take for granted on style blogs and fora.

Reminds me of the story of the novice golfer who sends his tee shot wildly off course into the parking lot of the country club, banging hard into the bumper of a car, careening down a path, hitting a stone, smacking a lovely blond spectator in the bum, into a tree, down a pole, onto the green and into the hole. "I think that is a hole in one", murmered the duffer shyly, "Does it matter how the ball made it into the hole?"

I frankly don't care if men learn to exhibit individual style by reading practical advice, wearing rubber shoes, experimenting with drugs, chanting with Buddha or eating jalapeno peppers. What matters to me is that men have real panache. How men get there doesn't make it onto the style scorecard.

I lament only the seemingly obligatory style blogger photo..the sitting indoors, crosslegged, with tweed jacket and cap shot. Who in the world started that trend.
