Gents, I was wondering what your thoughts and experience are with "cavalry" twill shirting. The "plain sky" from Acorn's Balmoral range linked below is what I'm thinking of. A whipcord-like wide but rounded single rib or wale, definitely separated from the neighboring wales (as is not the case with the squared-off ribs of wool cavalry twill).
I find the fabric interesting, because, when solid, it works as a solid shirt, but it has so much texture and visual presence that it functions almost as a patterned shirt. I have one, and it seems to pair well with tweed coats, much better than do solid regular twills, poplins, or royal oxfords (solid heavy oxfords are of course another matter).
What are your thoughts?
