Does Johnstons have a 600-700g dark grey herringbone tweed that would work as a city overcoat?

Harrissons might do this cloth. Can anyone else help this Gentleman ?

Harrison has a very handsome Pedersen & Becker Universal grey herringbone #74120 (and also a charcoal herringbone #74119). The weight seems to be around 620g but I'm not sure because they only give a range.

I'd vote for an overcoating in broad herringbone, grey, circa 700g.

Yes Kolecho, I think that is a good thought. I was trying to help a clothier from across the hall find a heavy drape, dense overcoating and not-a-one to be found. I find overcoatings these days to be wanting in density. I find the cashmere and camelhair overcoatings, these days, to be puffed. Puffy.. Not dense like they used to be.

Frank - Thank you for your thoughts. Do you have any thoughts on the W. Bill camelhair overcoating fabric #35243? It is 26oz and feels quite dense yet soft with a bit of puffiness on top.

Thanks Frank and duly noted! I'm thinking of a bespoke Polo meets Pea Coat at some point and seems like that fabric will fit the bill nicely.

Sure. Here it is. The color is light, but not too light. It has a warmth and richness that I like and you can feel the plushness in the photo. Good stuff.

^ Slew: I had Mina Adamo make a Paletot with that very fabric, and it is beautiful. Perhaps the nicest camelhair color I have seen to date.

I did a thorough check in all the books when I did the LL test camelhair coating. I found the W Bill to be too light (for its advertised weight), airy and spongy. I felt it might be fine for a jacket but not for an overcoat. The same was true for the Minnis and Harrison camelhair that undoubtedly come from the very same factory.

That is why I made the LL camelhair at 750 gms with a tight weave. An overcoat can take a pounding in real life. So make sure and provide yourself with rugged cloth. Unfortunately, rugged cloth is near impossible to find these days.
