Thanks for the info. The same is not true of hopsack though, right? I may try a flannel if I can find the right one...how do you find the drape on flannel? Also it seems to have kind of a sheen sometimes...have I just been looking at the wrong flannels?

I think so. Heavy flannel drapes beautifully (particularly good looking for trousers) and does not have a sheen at all - on the contrary. One day you WILL find the right one. We all do...

My vote would also be for a hopsack. It's plain, but with just enough surface texture to offer a nice contrast to flannel trousers.
