I am 28 and studied under Maestro Gallo, President of the Camera Europea del'alta Sartoria in Italy for 2 years. I have experience in the following: drafting patterns, cutting, bespoke handmade vests, jackets, pants. Bespoke tailoring is my passion, and now I am looking for work in the United States. Can anyone tell me of great bespoke tailors in the US who still follow the old tradition of almost everything handmade and made in house?

Jack Taylor never trained as a tailor. Have read he sends a his work over to Italy and has alterations tailors in Beverly Hills.

On the westside of Los Angeles is Enzo Caruso (Santa Monica, California). He is a 59 year old from Calabria, Italy, and some say the only legit bespoke tailor left in Los Angeles. Everything he does is in house and done by himself.

You might consider contacting Joseph Centofanti in Ardmore, Pennsylvania (just outside Philadelphia). A great tailor (former president of the Custom Tailors and Designers Association) who trained in Italy before WWII. He's one of the subjects of the documentary film "Men of the Cloth." He's now in his 90s, and he has one apprentice. I don't know whether he could use help with the business, but if so, he would be a fine person to work for. And if he retires, there would be customers to serve.

Contact information: Centofanti Tailors, 7 Station Road, Ardmore, PA 19003. Telephone: (610) 642-1926

I truly believe that if one wants to learn about tailoring that you talk to a tailor, but, in life there is always an exception to the rule. Why it is true that Jack Taylor is not a tailor, I believe one would be hard pressed to find someone who knows more about tailoring then Jack. One could walk into his shop and he could tell you if what you were wearing was bespoke – RTW or some combination thereof. He could sum you up and tell you the little idiosyncrasies of your body that you probably never thought of, that could be minimize by a properly fitted suit and this is all before having a conversation with you. He does not send anything out; everything is cut and made in his shop in Beverly Hills. His head tailor is a gentleman name Sam and his been with Jack for over 25 years.
Jack has made suits for a mind-boggling array of high-profile men from the Duke of Windsor to Luke Walton. His client list reads as a who’s who; Danny Thomas, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Jack Lemmon, Cary Grant, Jackie Gleason etc.
I mention Jack because, he has a lot of knowledge that he could pass on to and up and coming tailor. He is 94, so when he pass on, all the knowledge goes with him.
