When plump, I rely on side tabs to hold up my trousers, since I then fill the waist more completely; when I lose weight (an accordion effect that takes me from winter to summer's end), braces keep my trousers in place, on the waist, where they belong. Again, comfort and ease should be your guides, as Mr Alden stated so well in his--occasionally naughty--posts. Have your trousers made with both side tabs and brace buttons, and you will enjoy uncommon freedom.

Note on single ends, Eden: the fork continually distributes weight as you move, ensuring a proper line; I should be wary of single ends--after all, Thurston uses forks on their white gut end braces, and none have ever fitted me better. Food for thought, dear fellow....
