i think better leaders in tougher times, have dressed elegantly during most of the day. As they say he is from Hawaii whatever that means.
I'm just beginning to admire Reagan's clothes. well he is from a different era, possibly more classic and majestic than this new Obama presidency.

I'm sure most of Obama's clothes are off the peg, but the guy is incredibly graceful whether he's wearing the standard American politician's uniform of dark suit, white shirt and pale blue or red tie; or sweats and baseball cap. Just watch him walking down a corridor and his posture and the spring in his step are outstanding. His inauguration ball outfit was bizarre. Best dressed presidents of the last hundred years. No question. Kennedy and FDR. Reagan was fairly good, after all he was an actor for most of his life, but he's a bit contrived somehow. Too perfect. He looks as if Nancy chose his clothes which she probably did, all those plain brown worsted suits. Somehow I don't see Jackie or Eleanor choosing Kennedy or FDR's clothes. Or either of them wearing plain brown for that matter. Nothing against brown suits per se, brown flannel with a chalk stripe or tropicals look great.

Actually, I recall seeing a photo from Poole's archive in which the emperor's father, Hirohito, "pulling a Gustav" when he was the crown prince... He was dressed by Poole. Now, if I can remember where to find where I spotted the photo...

Without being indiscreet, I can tell you that one of the suits worn during the most significant parts of the inauguration was designed by, and made in, the workrooms of, a UK business.
