Here is a pair of wholecut kid shoes that I have just collected from my shoemaker:
And, because shoes may look good but they must also fit, one last picture:
My shoemaker’s next ambition (as soon as he finds a suitable leather) is to remake a youth project: the seamless shoe, cut from one piece of leather and moulded directly on the last. I have to live to see that. He says the leather needs to be soft, but thick enough to withstand the pulling and shaping involved in making that kind of shoe without cracking or becoming too thin.
Kid wholecuts
I've been discouraged from using kid, much less whole-cut kid. But on a man your size, the result is stunning.
I find kid light, comfortable to wear and easy to maintain (I just dust them off and rarely apply cream). If the leather is substantial enough (not like the kind for ladies' shoes), it is not more fragile than calf in my experience - and, although I have "only" 80 kgs, I am not very easy on my shoes.
