Is this fixable?

If the adjustment you need is slight, I believe your tailor should be able to use the inlay you describe to widen the legs. Depending on the cloth and how much it has been pressed, etc., it might take a bit of work and time to completely press out the original creases so that they don't show when the new creases are pressed in. LIkewise if the cloth is insubstantial, there may be evidence of the old inseam lines if you have stressed the seams in wearing. But for a newish garment, most likely the tailor can make the change without these artifacts. If you plan to use him again, make sure he marks the changes on you pattern. Good luck!

When you say that the knee area is a little tight is this standing or sitting - because if it is just sitting, maybe the solution is to pull the trousers up a little at the knees as you sit down - this also prevents stretching out of the material at the knees and saves the creases. However, make sure that you don't display mezza calza!!

Matthew,

We tailors always leave extra cloth at certain places in the coat and trousers.

This extra cloth enables us to let the garment out if a client puts on a few pounds, or, if a clients figure changes, don't worry about it as it is perfectly normal practice.

The best place for your trousers is back with your tailor who made the suit, he will use the inlay to make the trousers up to size, or use the inlays to change the angle of a particular seam to make them hang correct and feel great when you wear them.
