i am a retired tailor in the usa. you mentioned about visiting the states.
if you can make a "clean" coat with the proper hand work you would be in demand here.
bench coat makers are in short supply here and make good living.

I did not realise there was such a high demand for coat makers in the USA, is the process similar to english tailoring would you say?

yes the bench coat makers are dwindling. this has been happening for the last 40 years.
here the coat maker only needs to make the coat. its the cutter that measures, cuts pattern and cloth, fits and recuts after fitting. the cutter fitter has all the headaches.

That does sound tempting although I enjoy learning the whole process even the headaches (at times!).

I would like to learn about more Tailors in the US, just find them quite hard to dig out on the internet I suppose, it is slightly easier in Britain due to us having Savile row.

Do you have a certain area which is more well known for Tailoring? Or would you say they are dotted in different places all over?

Until the 1930s, all the great old cities of the United States -- Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago chief among them -- had many (and very good, often considered better though more expensive than Savile Row) fine men's tailors. Now, the largest concentration is certainly in New York city (and they may still be more expensive than Savile Row, alas).

I'd suppose that other cities in which enough men continue to dress decently (Boston, Chicago, perhaps Philadelphia and Richmond) would be in even more need of additional good tailors than New York is.

Yes I agree as with Britain there are gentlemen all over who would like the opitunity to visit a bespoke tailor but do not always have the chance if they live in a quite remote area where demand is not so high. I suppose the idea of the visiting tailor will hopefully start to grow more.
