I want to replace the plain glossy plastic buttons of a couple of trench coats with real, dark horn matte-finish ones with some lighter rippling (I would consider settling for a decent matte artificial imitation).

Here's a picture of the buttons attached to a suit I had made a few months ago. This kind of colouring would be ideal.

I'll be needing fifteen 1" and four 3/4" buttons.

I visited The Button Queen on Marylebone Lane a few months ago and to the best of my recollection the only horn buttons they had were of a uniform reddish brown and the plastic imitation ones were glossy.

Having traipsed around London hunting for other specific bits and pieces recently, I thought I'd seek help here first to try to save myself the potential frustration and exhaustion.

Can anyone recommend a shop in London (or an alternative source) that could possibly meet my demands?

Thanks,

Danny.

Dear Dan

The reddish brown ones are the ones we are after.

The best selection of horn buttons is at RJ Weldon in Soho. You might call first for their opening hours 020 7734 7151

Ah, great to see such a range. The pictures have broadened my horizons and made my choice all the more difficult.

I think a greyish button would look good with my bluey-grey coat. I really like the rich colour of '7 1/2' too.

Thanks a lot, you have both been very helpful. Looks like my old, long forlorn coats are soon to be revived with some handsome new buttons.
