Gentlemen:
I would be very grateful for any information regarding your experiences with the above. He is on my shortlist for my first bespoke suit experience. Also had Thomas Mahon on the list, however apparently he is not accepting new clients at this time.
My thanks
Steven Hitchcock
Hitchcock does very different work from Mahon's. Jackets are soft, but armholes are very high/tight, and there is enough roping about the shoulder to give the illusion of standard SR structure even though the body clings like a cashmere sweater. It is a cut that works for me, and Steven is generally easy to deal with. He also hits NYC 4x/year so it is not so hard for someone on this side of the pond to get a suit made before your weight and height change.
Stephen Hitchock has made close to a dozen suits and sport coats for me. I do not use him exclusively but I find him pleasant to deal with and eager to take on new challenges. You occasionally need a little persistence to complete a project to your satisfaction.
As Concordia has indicated in the previous post, his coats are soft but with some SR structure, certainly more so than you will get at A&S.
For your first bespoke project I do recommend Hitchcock but be prepared to work at it to get your fit dialled in to your satisfaction.

You could do a lot better than Steven. There are several other tailors that visit NY regularly that do better work and are considerably more pleasant to deal with. If you are ok with spending Thomas Mahon money, why not use A&S instead -- worksmanship and cut are better than any of the A&S alums and I have found them remarkably easy to deal with.
Thanks you all for your thoughts. I suppose like many others I'm looking for the best suit at the best price. The information in the LL forum has certainly helped me move several steps closer to that utopia.
Have you considered Desmond Merrion? (http://www.desmerrionbespoketailor.com/)
According to his blog he's making a trip to London very soon but he does travel all over the place.
I can't comment about the other tailors you mentioned but I've had a number of things from Des, his work is second to none and he's a great chap to deal with.
