Dear Gentlemen,
I am having my first pair of trousers made with side tabs, could you please post some pictures of how they should look, or hos yours look, and any advice on general styling/things to consider?
Thank you very much

Here are pictures of how they made on my trousers (first pair bespoke, second -- ready-made):

Thank you!
Beautiful Ambrosi work!
Though I am not wearing a pair of trousers with proper side tabs today, I would like to illustrate a similar concept to which my tailor introduced me.
The system works best with high back fishtail trousers (waistband in the front & no waistband in the back), but also with trousers that have all around waistband. Instead of being sewn to the high back, the waistband is buttoned to it. The two sets of buttons (obviously the same treatment is applied to the other side) allow for two levels of waistband tightness:
(the second button does need to be moved in a bit on this pair)
Before / after meal ? Today / next winter?
I have a few summer suit trousers with relatively high waist and this kind of three-piece waistband, that can be worn both with and without braces (buttons on the inside). The waistband is cut relatiely large (for comfort when wearing braces) but it can be tightened when I want to go braceless.
It works well because when the waistband is tightened the two sides slide past each other instead of curling up (and the waistband is normally quite bulky). Plus the pleat that is created lies along the side seam, thus minimizing impact on the trouser line.

Thank you all for this marvellous input!
The style posted by Dr. Teplitz is what I am inclined to call "the classic", although I'm not quite sure of the position (behind?). Is there an advantage to placing the tabs half on and half below the waistband?
My tailor usually places tabs on the waistband if the trousers are designed to be worn without braces and below the waistband if they are cut for braces.

Excellent pictures by all. Perhaps Corvato may have positioned those tabs strategically to maximize the gripping action for the wearer. At least that is the way I think about how tabs should be positioned. I prefer my side tabs to sit below the waist band so that they cinch right on my hip bone and can stay put there rather than on the natural waist (nothing but soft tissue there).Costi wrote:The style posted by Dr. Teplitz is what I am inclined to call "the classic", although I'm not quite sure of the position (behind?). I have them on the waistband on some pairs, but I think I like the placement shown in the photo for the reasons suggested by erasmus.
