Gentlemen:

Can anyone recommend a source in London for trimmings--I'm thinking particularly of the the sort of gunmetal-colored hook sets used on SR for closing extenson tabs on trouser waistbands? The U.S. trousermakers I've used--and like in most respects--seem only to have smaller, less substantial, bright-metal ones. I'll be in London in June, and I thought I'd pick up a couple of dozen to supply with cloth to the domestic makers. One additional point--do the SR versions require a different tool to close than the smaller ones?

As always, thanks in advance. My debts to the Lounge increase daily.

Randall -- just ask Poole when you are next there -- for a good customer I am sure they will spare some

Although they are known mostly for their linings, Bernstein & Banleys will have what you want. The problem will be, as usual, "to the trade" only unless you can ingratiate yourself sufficiently. Being a sincere hobbyist, may work.

The hooks can be purchased in the US through Isles Textiles or Cobern Textiles. Both in the NY area. Both companies source them in London. I do not recall which trimmings house they use.

No tools are required to set these hooks. It is all done by hand.

Cobern gets them from Bernstein.

Thanks to all for comprehensive information, as usual. Mr. Camhi at Cobern was quite understanding and is now ordering a lifetime supply of hook sets on my behalf. I think this course will preserve a better diplomatic position for me vis-a-vis Poole.
