Cuffs?/No Cuffs?

During our second fitting, Chris D. and I got on the subject of cuffs on suit jacket sleeves. I'm interested in the thoughts of the gentlemen on the forum concening this detail. Is it suitable for more formal cloths and cuts? Is it limited to SB or would it be okay on a DB as well? Does it look too obviously bespoke? In a word, can one get away with it? Posting pictures would be helpful as well.

What as Chris's opinion?

I have a DB in processwith turnbacks. I don't hinkk they are so noticeable as to be more of a distraction than a ticket pocket, peak lapels or bellows pockets.

It was Chris' suggestion as a possibility. The corners will be more square than usually seen to go with the pocket flaps and the general cut of the jacket.

Edit: Talked it over again with him today, and he thought it'd be too distracting with this particular coat. I' have to agree. Rule 1: listen to your tailor.

I tried turn-back cuffs for the first time on a DB overcoat this winter. I like that, but Iwould't do it on a suit. Seems to be a very fussy touch with a 1960s period feel. Don't know why.

It can depend on the cloth, navy blue DB's with turnback or a small gauntlet cuff, look good to me.

The expert who does the furniture on 'the antiques roadshow' in the UK, I think it's Hugh something, usually has them on his DB suits, they look nice and smart.

They seem a little vulgarly showy to me; unnecessary, ugly, and pretentious.

I think you should do it! With the fabric you chose, I think it would be a nice touch.

I'd also vote no on anything but an overcoat.

I rarely miss an opportunity to bling it up but I have it on some suits I think of as night club suits and I like it. I have a suit that is navy with lavender dots and self covered buttons and that has cuffs and I like it very much. Its one of the advantages of age, even if people don't like it-they don't say anything
