Apologies for my ignorance, I am making a short trip to London and was hoping to purchase suit and shirt fabric. Does anyone have any suggestions where to go?

A good one-stop merchant is Smith Woollens in Dufours Place. You can name drop London Lounge. David and his staff will take good care of you. I've always had positive experience with their goods and service.

You can also visit Textile King in Soho.

There is also the Textile King on Berwick Street (I think).

Berwick St is in Soho, there are other fabric stores on the street including the Cloth House plus a couple of tailors (Mr Eddie and Chris Kerr and Tony Lutwyche).

Joel on Church St also has a wide variety of fabrics.

I have not found a good merchant for shirtings in London. The cloth stores in Soho and the back streets of SR are hit and miss for both shirtings and woollens. Any ideas?

Trip report:

I went to Steven Hitchcock to place an order for a new suit and to get fitted. I mentioned to Steven that I was going to try Smiths for shirting fabric and he seemed quite sure they did not carry shirting fabric. He helped me give Smiths a ring and sure enough, Smiths don't have shirting fabric. So if any LL members do end up going hunting for shirting fabric in London, you might want to strike Smiths off your list! For suit fabric however, they are meant to be superb.

In the end I didn't have enough time to go to anyone for shirting or suit fabric!

Stowers Bespoke, the bespoke tailoring outfit that operates out of Liberty, sells cloth by the metre from all of the big English cloth merchants and some of the Italian ones as well.
