Has anyone had experience with shirts by Russell and Hodge? Was it well made and better than most of what is offered on Jermyn Street (which I sense has become over-commercialised)?

You need to speak to the owner cutter Kerry Ford. There shirts are first class! but do keep them a secret if you can. They also make all the bespoke shirts for Harvey and Hudson and Coles plus more on Jermyn st and some of the shops on Savile row.

Dreadsthreads, are you sure that they make for Harvie & Hudson? I heard that H&H employ two full-time cutters. Do they outsource sewing to R&H?

Why keep them a secret? It's always good news to hear of another maker and that a proper English shirt (made in England!) is not dead.

I hear you Mr Seitelman. I hope the traditional can be maintained. The traditional and individual is oh so much better than the mass marketed.

Just two days ago, I returned from London visiting Tobias Davis and, a few hours after that, Russel and Hodge. I spoke to Kerry Ford who seemed to be extremely busy but still took his time to listen attentively to my wishes (high Edwardian collar with rounded ends) and took my measurements with the utmost care. He was extremely friendly, not too talkative and went straight to the important points of the shirt design.
The conditions are very favourable: they do not require a minimum number of shirts, so you can just start with one shirt being made (they will send it to you for a small fee) for trial. After the usual trial period, they agreed to make adjustments as you like. One shirt is priced from GBP 125.00 (basic cloth) including VAT, making it a very competitive rate. They have a huge selection of cotton swatches from various (preferably english) mills.
Everything (and I mean everything) is made on the premises, which ensures the shortest way of communication between cutter and finisher.
I cannot but recommend this company to the members of the LL, however I will keep you updated as soon as the first shirt has arrived.
