I am wondering what the members here feel of the quality of suits from the Z Zegna line or from Strellson.

I have a very difficult time with RTW suits (6'3", 37" sleeve, 36" waist) but have found that a 48T from Z Zegna or a 46T from Strellson are a good approximation and could probably be very good with adequate tailoring. For instance, rather than a standard 6" drop, we measured the waist on the Zegna pants to be 37".

In Vancouver, the Zegna runs about $1000 CDN (430 GBP or 850 USD) while a Strellson suit from their "business" line is about $800 CDN.

Any thoughts about the worthiness of these particular lines, or does someone have a suggestion of another brand that would be worth trying.

Up until now I have relied on a Hong Kong tailor who comes through town twice a year for my suits as I simply can't find anything that fits properly. His prices are starting to rise and I am considering moving to RTW and trade what might be a drop in quality and an increase in price for the luxury of having the suits within 10 days rather than 10 weeks.

Thanks,

Matt

Z-Zegna is a mass produced garment made in Mexico.
They are not full canvas, but are fused with a chest piece that is sewn in, not glued in.

They use nice fabrics and tend to have nice cuts. Fake pick stitching etc.
They are in the same price group as Boss, even a touch cheaper in some markets but a better piece than Boss.

Have you considered a MTM from Samuelsohn?
It would not be that much more I would think.
Turn around time is about 3 weeks.

Thanks, zegnamtl.

I had not considered Samuelsohn. I did purchase a JP Tilford suit MTM through Harry Rosen and to be honest was never that impressed with the final product, even after a couple of trips back for alterations. Do you find the Samuelsohn to be a better quality?

What is your opinion of the Strellson?

Samuelsohn has been doing much better work in the last 2 or 4 years then ever before.
They have a new designer, with some very nice suit bodies, a new production manager and the work, over all is very nice.
It is not bespoke, it is not Oxxford, but for the price, it is very nice.
Write them and see if there is a shop other than Rosen in your area and ask when the Samuelsohn rep will be in that shop to help ensure a proper measurement.

I have no experiences with Strellson, sorry.
