quick poll: would you wear a bow tie with a business suit?
I have never done so, but am seriously thinking if I should...
I do on very rare occasions, when in the mood to somehow distinguish the day
I do all the time, but my business is medicine.
I live in the southeastern United States...I think it's more "acceptable" down here. If I'm wearing seersucker, I always go with a bow tie.
I often do, but not if I'm going to court: I work as a lawyer and want judges to pay more attention to the message than to the messenger. (The attention it draws from others is generally favorable, however.)
I have and will continue to do so. Sometimes the only bit of fun one can have while at work is with one's clothing.

I haven't and probably won't.
Ditto. It does not suit my personality.Cantabrigian wrote:I haven't and probably won't.
Will wear one occasionally with a sport coat for variety's sake and just for fun. I wouldn't with a suit, however, but then I wear suits very infrequently.
I do sometimes, but usually wear bows with odd jackets or blazers.
I'm a CEO of a travel corporation and I have ALWAYS worn a bow tie, with a Business suit as long as I can remember.
Just think of Winston S. Churchill.........I rest my case!

I have worn a bow tie once with a suit about nine years ago (fall of 1997).
The suit was a standard SBNL in a charcoal pinstripe.
The shirt was white with doulbe cuffs, with blue and gold crown Swedish cuff links of course.
White pocket square and black wing tip shoes.
The bow tie was a repp stripe from BB in navy and light blue.
For the most part I prefer a necktie with a suit and leave the bow tie for a blazer or sport coat. Some suits would look very nice with a bow tie such as a solid, pinstripe, or chalkstripe.
My personal favorite look is a bow tie with a blue blazer. Have a look.

No. I live in Seattle and can count on one hand the number of bow ties I've seen on the street downtown in 11 years--let alone in a business setting. I used to live in St. Louis and would wear one every once-in-a-while but mostly with a jacket and trousers, not a suit. Were I to live in Charlotte I could (and would) carry one off, no problem.
To be honest, I almost never wear a tie, period.
