Another option, one that I have occasionally exercised, is a pair of very dark cordovan (I believe they were officially labelled "Burgundy") wingtips below a grey or black suit. I find they retain a more formal air than brown and, paired with a lavender shirt and/or lavender or purple tie, can assist in stylishly meeting the demands of the office.
