Rachmaninoff, brilliant composer and superb pianist that he was, had a peculiar idiosyncrasy while living in America. No matter how much he was offered for a concert or recital at Carnegie Hall on any given Sunday, he flatly refused. The reason? Rachmaninoff didn't want to miss the Jack Benny radio show.

Charming, kilted - thanks for posting this. So many great men reach an apparent simplicity of the soul through refinement (rather than simplicity from being crude). It is an alchemic process that cannot be faked or rushed. But the catalyst - the aspiration to grace - has to be there.
