Perhaps I did not spot your post in February but I know Fowey a little. I spent ten days at the Fowey Hall Hotel once.

Well..... did you like it there? By the way, in the London Clubs' thread, I chortled at your 'but the members.........'.. This is the trouble with big clubs and those that admit nearly anyone.

Fowey Hall Hotel itself is fine for a family orientated hotel. They cater for children admirably well. The food is not haute cuisine. It has an informal atmosphere that is not normally my preference but with a large family group of all ages was perfectly satisfactory.

The town of Fowey is very pleasant, with lots of small independent shops, a pretty harbour and a small, sandy beach. I believe that comedians Dawn French and Lenny Henry now own Point Neptune House at the harbour, one of the finest coastal houses in Cornwall. Fowey is one of my preferred towns in Cornwall but it is decidedly discovered these days.

Yes, point Neptune is a fine house. I once stayed in it, before it was sold to the comedic duo. The town is well known as a holiday and yachting destination: and the town has a long and fine history - indeed the harbour sent more ships to the Seige of Calais than did London. Fowey Hall was built by the Hansons and, before it was made into an hotel, it was a conference centre, where I stayed as a student, on some course, aged 17, and met a girl called Victoria, from Penryn, who was the first girl that I ever kissed; underneath the pine trees at the beginning of the drive.....a long time ago.......and caught her 'flu.....but I would say that it was worth the price: long, golden hair and bright blue eyes and a charming smell she had - and very tight, light blue jeans. I still remember that we had dined on chicken that night - but I don't recall what I had to eat last Wednesday..........

A nice memory. One never forgets that first, hypnotic smell that bewitches and enchants.

yes, it is a nice memory - but scarey to realize that it was over 30 years ago.
