Dress code question - Black Tie OK?

My fellow Class of can't remember which year from several countries will be getting togetherfor a small dinner gathering for which there is no dress code. The country where we will meet is tropical where long-sleeve shirts and pants are considered respectable, while ties and suits are wearable at dinners held in air-conditioned restaurants.

Is it appropriate for me to turn up in Black Tie with a bottle of vintage French wine whether or not anyone else does?

If the bottle is good and you bring enough for everyone, then what you wear will be appropriate.
