These two lighters from Dunhill and Dupont have the advantage of being relatively compact. This is an advantage for the well dressed smoker who normally does not like a big clunky lighter in the pocket and would never think of flicking a Bic.

The one on the left is very similar to one purchased for me by my then-girlfriend and now-wife as a birthday gift.

I have a beautiful version of the dunhill lighter on the right in hallmarked sterling. Mine is in a barleycorn rather than ridged pattern. Being quite old, it leaks and uses gasoline rather than butane. I love to use it anyway and, when I smoke regularly, am willing to put up with the odor of gasoline and having to refill it every two days in exchange for the pleasure.

My Dupont lighter is an argument for heavier suitings. The wieght is too obvious in a mid-weight jacket pocket.

Bics are offensive.

I believe the Dunhill is the Mini Rollagas.

My personal lighter is a sterling Cartier from the 30's.

If someone is looking for a cheap and good lighter for everyday, I suggest Dupont X-Tend: it works perfectly.

Although that item is not as aesthetically pleasing as the Dupont Gatsby lighter, and such.

I couldn't imagine anymore lighting up cigars, particularly outside, without the aid of a 'turbo' lighter.

The Dupont Xtend is beautifully shaped and light, perfect for carrying in a suit coat pocket, but indeed it is not beautiful in that it is too modern,.

On the other hand , the only Dunhill turbo lighter I've found, and actually bought, is heavy, bulky although beautiful particularly covered in marroon ostrich foot leather. Not at all suitable for inconspicuously carrying.

Infact, this post on lighters brings me to think of lighters' particular forte which is to light a wonderful cigar and so, I'm going to dash out now to my tobacco store in search of an open box of Partagas Serie D. I'll light it with the Dunhill.

The Dupont x-tend is my favorite. i bought my first on the strict criteria of being slim and being able to light a cigar in a duck blind or shooting peg with a glove on. The x-tend has served this purpose perfectly. No, not classy or pretty like the Duponts and Dunhills of old, but i find it a modern classic. The Motorola Razor cell-phone is much the same, slim enough to carry in a trouser or jacket pocket without too much disturbance.

Now, if Dupont could only make the x-tend in a more noble metal and finish, it would capture my heart.

I have had three of the lighters, the first disappeared who know where. The second was confiscated by the friendly TSA employees in exchange for a note saying "you cannot have a lighter in your packet luggage any more". Would that I had known. At least they did not take the Zino clipper that the lighter was packed with. The third I just picked up on E-Bay for $85

I have a S.T. Dupont cigar lighter ligne 2 "Black Chinese Lacquer and Palladium" with their matching cigar cutter also in chinese lacquer and palladium.

Plus, I have a another smaller Dupont lighter inherited from my great-grandfather from the 30s.

I to have an ST Dupont ligne 2 "Black Chinese Lacquer and Palladium, the look and the feel of it (the weight) make it a favourite of mine. My farther uses a vintage gold Dunhill which I must say is extremely elegant. But for my everyday lighter ( and I only smoke cigars; so I mean the one I use when I am not in comfortable surroundings) I use a Colibri turbo - light weight, good looking and works like a dream.

I agree about the look. I particularly chose it because it has a mixture of subtleness with the black and metallic mixture but is also quite noticeable. Plus it has a matching cigar cutter.
