Gentlemen,

There has been a lot of discussion around handcrafted Neapolitan clothing on this site, but little concerning handcrafted Neapolitan pizza. Here is a picture of an example of same made by one of the finest artisans, the restaurant "Da Ettore" in the Borgo Santa Lucia in Naples.




You may want to save this picture for posterity because if Brussels has its way this pizza will be banned for being made in a traditional wood burning oven.

The pizza is contructed naturally of the finest hand selected materials, namely: rucola, cherry tomatoes from the volcanic earth of Vesuvio, Extra Vergine olive oil and Mozzarella di Bufala.

I would like to add that some Roman innovations are also a wonderful delight, such as the pizza's topped with fiori di zucca and anchovies, or the carciofi topped versions, or the melanzane..... BASTA! I am now hungry!

I can smell the aroma.

My lunch suddenly seems entirely unsatisfactory.

So why is the EU banning wood burning ovens?
And what else which we enjoy could be banned?
This is very strange to read, indeed.

Don't let me in this argument, Uppercase, I could explode in angry.

- forbidding the best Pizza and bread (banning of brick ovens)

- forbidding one of the best white italian wines (banning of Tocai)

- forbidding the best french and italian cheese (banning of raw milk)

- I could go on and on with pasta, chocolate, already banned cheeses ... etc.

why? maybe someone is envious or simply someone is stupid.

The first I've heard of this. I wonder if Hungarian Tokay, too, will eventually disappear.

As for government run amok, with increasing (and often foolish) regulation: no surprise there, given human nature; surprising only that so few people expected it.

Have these EU regulations actually been approved and implemented?

Or are the lawmakers at the discussion stage?

Enactment would be very unfortunate, indeed. Strange that Europeans would
allow such interference in their culture.

Some are already approved and implemented; others are coming.

There are regulations that state the size of all fruit. For example, an apple as to be minmum 55mm, maximum 70mm. A banana has to be minimum 14cm (no easy jokes here).

Perhaps we should have a thread devoted to stupid governmental actions; 'problem is, such a thread could easily overwhelm the rest of the forum.
