I went on one of my occasional manic buying sprees and bought 3 bottles this week:
-Annick Goutal Eau de Monsieur
-Nicholai New York Intense
-Robert Piquet Baghari

These will last me until 2028 because I’ll get tired of them soon and not use them, wanting to try something new. Not a good model.

Who knows why I bought Baghari which I later learned is a woman’s perfume.
But it smelled good at the time.
Some actions are just hard to explain. Oh well.

But I do like the New York.
That’s a keeper.

Reading some of the posts here, I was prompted to look at Basenotes.net : they have a review of pretty much everything olfactory.

I think I've discovered a solid, inverse relationship there, between contributors' efforts to be descriptive, and the extent to which they are actually informative :

What separates it from the pack is a really complex mix of animalic notes. There's cumin and sweaty-old-man leather and a big blast of cat poop currant, all of which combines with the smoky pepper and piney cedar to smell like some sort of incredibly dirty, sweaty, poopy forest. It's weirdly resplendent in its celebration of woodland rot, which makes it interesting, but not exactly easy sniffing.

I agree Melcombe, it can be difficult to translate a smell, an association, a memory into words.

Some people enjoy smelling like shit. It can be considered an intellectual and emotional challenge. It can bring back childhood memories. I don’t underestimate its significance.
Think civet. Now, who can honestly resist this rare gland?

I on the other hand prefer smelling like roses. And sometimes oranges and lemons. And I like grapefruit too.

I know myself to be easily persuaded by taste makers, advertorials, the inaccessible and children.

But, having matured, I now know that I do not really prefer barnyard, just like my wines.

I tell myself that is time to come home to what I knew I knew all along but for so long was distracted.

Well, for 2020 I have just gone for one; Guerlain Jicky. I had a clear out and the only survivor was Jicky.
Interestingly my girlfriend, when she applies her perfume does so by spraying it on her hair. It always smells delicious.

I have recently had difficulty getting Guerlain Jicky. Can anyone suggest a supplier please. There is a rumour its out of production.

Im still with Jicky @ 4.4.2024. For work now use Hermes Eau d' Orange when I travel - they sell it is small bottles as a set .

I have always bee rather unadventurous. My main sent is Jicky by Guerlain difficult to get hold of by Selfridges always have it.
This year I've added some others, Blu by Chanel. Fresh and not overpowering
Island Khadlaj 0 wow, powerful and light but a tropical sent - lasts amazingly well.
The last is Spice Bomb by Viktor and Rolf - perfect for night life.

Just some suggestions I hope this is of use.
