Visit to Ireland

In mid-February my wife and I will travel to Ireland and spend three weeks touring. Do any of my fellow well travelled London Loungers have any advice on what to do and see?

If you want the ultimate in sophistication and elegance then a stay at Ashford Castle.

Clothwise, a visit to Kevin and Howlin is always good. Ignore the rtw in the window, there's always stocks of proper handwoven Donegal tweed. Whilst you're deciding which to go for be sure to pop across the road to see the Book of Kells.

Dingle in Co Kerry is a magical place.
Cork for gastronomic enjoyment.
In the North I would always recommend a visit to Bushmills Inn.

Lots to see & do in Dublin - the museums esp the Castle, are good and plenty of decent restaurants. The Temple Bar area is best avoided unless you want the tourist treatment. Take some comfortable shoes - I think the city is better seen on foot than from a bus (you'd be in a traffic jam anyway...)

Belfast is one of my favourite cities. The Crown Liquor Saloon is worth a trip, but plenty of historic and lovely things to see. The tour of City Hall is very interesting if you're into UK history.

Cork / West Cork is also a good destination if you like scenery and beaches, but be prepared for hours of driving..

Thank you all for the good advice. We were there 20 days so there was time to do most all what you so kindly offered. Perhaps my favorites were the Book of Keels and the Bushmills Distillery. Truly a magical place to tour. And oh, the high Celtic Crosses. Art that is twelve centuries old and you can actually walk up and touch it.

Dingle for sure, Dick Mack's Pub where you can drink and buy a custom leather belt. There is some beautiful leaded crystal in Dingle as well.
