American rap is sort of a cultural mystery for me. But I learnt that if I keep my mind open and get the right help (written lyrics and references about the meaning in the comments below the videos) I can enjoy the experience.

So nice to see someone else here enjoying this genre. There are really great rappers out there. French rap in particular can be beautiful. And that is before trying to understand the lyrics, which is hard for non-natives given the slang. But just the melodic voice with a good beat can make my feet tap and my hips shake.

I´m not sure if Stromae qualifies as a typical French rapper but I enjoy his music a lot. My son (13 y.o.) is my guide in these matters. He says that the British rappers -guys like Chip and Bugzy Malone- are also of attention due to their particular rhythm (compared to the Americans). Maybe you think like me, that classical composers are not what they used to be. But amongst those still alive and working, Glass is my favorite. Good enough to occupy some of my precious listening time vis a vis other late household names.
