I know this will make one of our resident violinists cringe, but I could hardly resist Basil Rathbone and Harry James..

He was a student of the Arban method.
If that is any consolation.

I've an ancient "Olds" trumpet that I take out once and awhile to disturb the neighborhood. Great fun.
Mainly St. Louis Blues..... Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke...great sounds and memories. Any trumpet players here?

I used to play semi-professionally, classical and jazz. My French Besson (made on rue d'Angouleme) is in mothballs now, so I can't annoy the neighbors. Compare the Harry James video to Maurice Andre's version of the same show piece.
My favourite trumpet rendition (from those on youtube) is that of Rafael Mendez: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0bGWD8F ... re=related
I don't play the trumpet, but I think it is technically very good and, more important, the spirit of the interpretation is closest to the original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHR1eZ23qCw

My favourite solo is not even a real solo by her at all: Kay Kendall in the film Genevieve.
