I wonder if anyone here is familiar with the range of hatmakers Christys? I am looking for a new Trilby in brown for the racecourse. Which style would be the most authentic? Which material wool felt or fur felt? And how do they compare to Bates, Lock etc.?

Kind regards Cordoba

Cordoba

Christies has a few routes to market. They make hats for their own brand and for some well known London shops :D

They have an excellent brown trilby though the name escapes me at present. (It is very similar to a lovely Bates model.)

Oh and if you are in the market for a Homburg, their model is excellent.

Cheers

I have their brown tribly, the model name is Epsom. I think it's made from rabbit fur felt. From what I can tell it seems a pretty nice hat.

Thank you both for your answers. I allready settled on either the Sportsman or the Epson, leaning towards the latter...
So what about all these englishmen wearing their Trilbys a number or two to small? :?

Where can you buy Christies? Do they have a retail store?

:D Great point, hats shrink, especially where it rains alot, so go up a half size or make sure the fit is generous to start.

Then you will have to learn to wear your hat with two tilts: the hat is higher in the back then the front, and tilted to one side. This style of wear gives the appearance of a hat that is barely adhering to the head. If the hat is indeed too small this will not work as the hat will slide of the head. So get the right size, account for a bit of shrink and tilt the hat as indicated above and you will be "authentic."

Cheers
