Thanks for this!

I don't suppose you've read Nielsen's My Childhood? I've heard its a rather literary work, but have never been able to get hold of a translation...

Nielsen's memories, which I have only read after you started this thread, are charming and I hope you manage to track down an English copy. If it is of any help, the translator's name is Reginald Spink (who apparently has also penned a book with the fascinating title "DBC. The story of the Danish Bacon Company 1902-1977"!). The translation was published by music publishers Wilhelm Hansen of Copenhagen in 1971. If you are at Oxford, would not the Bodleian have the book?

Otherwise, if you read German, you might want to look for the 1992 translation to that language: Mogens Rafn Mogensen, tr., "Meine fünische Kindheit," Arbon: Verlag Eurotext.

This is true - but it's the vacation at the moment. I shall enquire, and may be able to make some scans - the book data will be helpful - thank you very much for the reply!

Does it give much insight into the music?

Best wishes,
William.

Not yet. I've seen the movie (http://www.vh1.com/movies/movie/92339/moviemain.jhtml), Min fynske barndom/My Childhood Symphony. It isn't Bergman, but it is an interesting movie.

Well I certainly had no idea that existed!
