Paul Goerg Champagnes?
A question for alden or any others with experience of this producer. What are your impressions? On Sunday I had a NV brut blanc de blancs, billed as from premier cru plots, in a house cuvée made for Lacroix restaurant here in Philadelphia. They had priced it below the standard VC, Bollinger, etc. NV bruts, but it seemed a cut above that range to me. Good acidity but a creamy texture, seemingly ripe fruit (good balance as the bubbles abated toward bottle's end, tableside), a bit of bakery, and some complex flavor notes I couldn't pin down. It was my first acquaintance with this producer. Anyone have notes or opinions? Thanks, as always, in advance.

Not one I've tasted myself but for what it's worth (not much) Wine Spectator give it an 87 rating, compared to a 93 for NV Bolly and 91 for NV Veuve.
.Very inviting, rich and creamy in texture, sporting delicate, mouth-filling effervescence. Slightly sweet from generous flavors of fruit, vanilla and spice that linger nicely on the finish.

Thanks, Whittaker. Those notes sound right except perhaps the sweetness, though certainly it's not green fruit. I gather Goerg makes several house cuvees so I don't kow whether this is just the standard NV b-de-b relabeled or whether the blend includes more reserve wine. If I ever run across any in a store I'll try it and see how close it seems.
