I am planning to commission a suit for business in 12 ounce HS worsted Intercity cloth. Such a weight should be ideal for spring and early fall in Philadelphia climate. Would this cloth be too warm for moderate summer weather of say 80 degrees F ? Thanks for your suggestions.

depends on you..
im warm in a 7 oz light gray suit if it is sunny and over 70 F...but i'm in the minority here
HOWEVER i would answer that yes it's too warm for most people in 80F weather even more so in a dark color

It is very hard to give an answer to this question as each of our body's chemistry is different. I can wear 13 ozs in high 80s temperatures and feel just fine. Other men might melt.

It also depends on the construction of the 12 ozs cloth. If it is an open weave fabric it might be cool in 80s temps.

Steer clear of the high worsted super numbers. They have a great, soft hand, but the close weave doesn't breathe, leaving you hot and clammy in warm weather. Conversely, this kind of cloth is thin, a poor insulator and chilly in cold weather. It also creases and wears quickly.

Carl,You are correct concerning the super worsteds. However, the cloth I am considering is not one of them. It is HS 608051, midgray, Intercity range. There is no super number given so it might be about 100.

Good Man!

I've been on a one-man crusade to stamp out anything over super 100.

Nice to look at, pleasant to touch, doesn't perform.

The Intercity book, if I remember correctly, is 13-14 ozs. The cloth is good, but there are better in that weight range (Lesser, Smiths, LBD et al.) I suppose the Intercity would rank as a Super 90 and that is pretty much alright for most uses.
