Boutonniere

I would like to know how to keep a Boutonniere fresh. I opted for a (white) Gardenia Augusta and not too long after I attached it to my lapel, the edges turned yellow and a short while after that I decided to remove it altogether.

Even touching gardenia petals turns them yellow/brown. Subject to that, they should remain fresh for a few hours.
