Can you use brown shoe polish on dark brown shoes or do you need specific dark brown polish to avoid discoloration?

I suppose that would largely depend on the color of the shoes in question and the polish that you are using. In my experience, applying brown Saphir Medaille d'Or on my darkbrown C&J Audleys shoes does not have got any effect in terms of discoloration.

But isn't discoloration fascinating?

We have to wait decades to get the natural discoloration we call a patina. Or if you know how to use your polishes and creams you can create the illusion of same in a few days.
