Tie Treatment

Gentleman:

A coworker shared with me his habit of spraying an aftermarket fabric protector on his ties. Here is the States the commonly used product is Scotchguard. He states that it helps protect his neckwear from drips, stains, neck oil, etc.

Is this a common practice?

I have heard of people treating the rear car seats with it when they have young children who are prone to make a mess, but I have never heard of anyone treating a tie it!

It's more of a furniture protector, isn't it? But why not spray your tie with it!!

When dining, ties are rather expensive bibs, which is why I tuck mine into my shirt in a military style. Scotchguard might work as well though.

there is a Swiss company that treats all their ties with a protectant, so liquids just pearl off. I have one and it works very well. The design and workmanship, however, may not be to everyone's tastes:
