When wearing a knit with a shirt should you show the 0.5 inch cuff as is usual with jackets or should the shirt cuff be covered completely?
Thank you
knits and cuffs
An excellent question!
I think that also with knits a 0.5 inch shirt cuff should be shown like with jackets in order to have the same elegant contrast between the two..

I either not show any cuff of the shirt or show less cuff of the shirt when wearing knitwear than with jackets: about 0.75 cm, which is around a third of an inch. The reason that knitwear normally fits more tightly, particularly in the sleeves, and so the showing of shirt cuff doesn't seem as neccesary as with jackets. Also if I'm wearing a jacket AND knitwear under it, I never show any shirt cuff, only the end of the sleeves (or cuffs if there are) of the knits if they have sleeves, and if they are sleeveless then I opt for the conventional shirt cuff amount showing under the jacket.

I like to unbutton cuffs when worn casually with a knit, the cuffs are sufficiently tight to keep things mostly in place but it's a bit more relaxed. With a suit (rarely) I will leave them done up, and if they are French cuffs I will fasten one side under the other (like a normal cuff but with a link instead of a button, essentially), so they stay in place and don't stretch the knit's cuff.
