What would you say is the best type of leather for gloves? And more specifically driving gloves?

I'd guess that it'd be peccary.

Do gloves need to be linned?

I agree peccary - Pickett does them - best unlined; that way you can keep them on when you sign to pay for your next pair, in say, 50 years' time - my father has a pair that old - still perfect. Natural Chamois is also good although not waterproof.
