I was wondering what would be the correct jacket for a double-breasted shawl collar waistcoat? Should the jacket have notched or peaked lapels?

Many thanks

Are you intent upon wearing this waistcoat with an ordinary business suit? Evening dress? Odd jacket? What?

Business suit. But I work in a company where the black pin-stripe business suit is nothing extraordinary and men do not bother wearing it.

I kicked off a discussion about that recently in the Dressing Room.

What type of jacket lapel is this? It does not look like a simple notched lapel...

I have suits like this and some people even expressly copied the style but the w/c was a double-breasted peak lapel which this may be rather than a shawl lapel (here it is not clear but I imagine that it is probably not shawl).

Re the innitial question, I think a jacket worn over a DB waistcoat may be either notch or peak lapel, as long as it is single breasted. It may well be a notch lapel SB coat if part of a town suit, or a peak lapel SB stroller for instance.
The picture above is most certainly of a simple SB notch lapel coat, just with a somewhat lower notch (longer collar).

I agree not a double-breasted coat. Now I think that it is usual to have a notch lapel with the SB coat.

I agree about suits, but I thought that double-breasted waistcoats are ok for double-breasted stroller jackets. Or does the stroller jacket follow its cousin the dinner jacket, and doesn't take waistcoats when double-breasted?

Awkward chap that I am (!) I don't know what a stroller jacket is.

Guille, a DB stroller takes a SB waistcoat if anything (one may dispense with the waistcoat alltogether).

More here about strollers.

I've found a doubl-breasted shawl lapel waistcoat here: http://www.mens-hire.co.uk/wp-content/u ... -500px.jpg
You shouldn't give it too much attention, as it is from a rental store for formalwear. They consider it a waistcoat for morning dress. But I think that it looks odd being such a low-cut waistcoat with a morning coat, so I guess the only adequate use is with a stroller (i.e. semi-formal daywear).
