I'm about to get married and will need a new morning suit. I would really appreciate some advise on the RTW options in the UK (I'm London based). I have £1000ish pounds to spend so I'm afraid bespoke will be out of my budget. Many thanks in advance.

Ede & Ravenscroft first, Hackett second. Though you might consider some of the second hand shops like Bertie Wooster or Hornets.

Perhaps go secondhand or deep discount on the trousers and trimmings, but invest in bespoke for the jacket? One of the off-row tailors might be able to hit your price.

Thanks for your replies. Do any off row tailors spring to mind, I'm told it's a very specific type of tailoring. Are Gieves and Hawkes worth looking at for RTW?

Bertie Woosters has gone, sadly. Outside of London, you might try Pakeman Catto and Carter for the waistcoat and trousers.

Is this still true, or true again? When I was in London in June David Saxby had taken it over along with Old Hat and showed no sign of decamping. Please advise whether this has changed.

I hadn't realised that; no, I have no reason to believe that it is not still going under its new ownership - I only knew it under Geroge Cazenove.

Thanks very much for your replies concerning my morning suit quandary. I took your advice and called into Hackett, Ede & R, and Bertie Wooster. Bertie Wooster had some great original options but given that it was my own wedding I felt that a new option would make me feel better on the day. Ede's options certainly seemed very good quality but the fit was very off on me and I found the staff a little unhelpful in making suggestions to alter or correct quite obvious problems instead telling me it was 'fine', not helpful at all. So I finally ended up at Hackett in Sloane Street. I was looked after there by Ali who offered excellent advice on all elements of fit and style and who oversaw the jacket and trouser alterations, (which in the case of the trouser took two fittings on his recommendation). I am extremely happy with the end result given that they are RTW and would recommend Hackett if you have Ali looking after you.

I can suggest another option;
please browse the Pakeman ,Catto and Carter shop on line catalogue at the following web site:

http://www.pakeman.co.uk/products.php?cat=25

They have RTW morning coats with striped or cecked morning trousers that seem well cut at a very resonable price (500 pounds).The linen waistcoat that they offer in my opinion seems too much long and You should purchase it from another source. Indeed the waistcoat lower edges are supposed to be at the same height (or very close) of the front quarters of the coat , where these start continuing into the tails.
The Firm has also shops in UK in Edinburgh and Cirencester where You trya direct fitting.

Good luck!

Angelo
