In Alan Flusser’s book ‘Style and the man’ there is a small section on white tie ensembles. He mentions that the outfit ‘consists of white pique bow tie and matching stiff white pique-front evening shirt with attachable wing collar’. Is he referring to something else other than the Marcella fabric?

Pique and marcella are synonyms. It is a particular weave which looks like this:
