Raglan sleeve coats

Typically in the US, Raglan sleeves are pretty soft and have a decent-sized armhole. Is that a defining trait of the pattern? I.e., would one get a soft shoulder when ordering a Raglan coat from, say, Kilgour or Huntsman? Or is this an area where tailors also try to impose their "house style?"

raglans are always soft shouldered. but each house has its own version.
